Apple iPhone 4 Lives Up to the Hype

When Apple announced the Internet presale of the new iPhone 4, the amount of web traffic crashed the Apple site, serving as a testament to the demand for the updated device. From the newly designed casing to the addition of a second camera and multitasking abilities, the iPhone 4 is set to “change everything, again” as Apple puts it.

Anyone familiar with previous iPhone models will immediately notice how the new version has a different look and feel. The new phone has a more rectangular shape, flat on both sides, and is only 9.3mm thick, making it the thinnest smartphone available today. Users will also notice an immediate difference in the phone’s cameras as well. After many complaints about the iPhone’s lack of flash photography, Apple has responded by adding a LED flash to the rear camera. The rear camera still shoots at 5 megapixels, while taking video in high definition. And with the addition of iMovie to the App Store, users can film and edit HD videos before uploading them to the web right from the phone. The front-facing camera allows users to shoot self-portraits with ease and makes video calling possible with the new FaceTime feature.

Another big improvement over previous models is the iPhone 4’s ability to multitask between applications. This new feature lets users seamlessly switch from one app to another without having to closing any apps or bog down the system. Since the number of available 3rd party applications grows each week, Apple has given users the choice to create and manage folders on the iPhone 4 home screens. Users can organize apps any way they wish, making the phone easier to navigate and making the screen look less cluttered.

The email feature has also been enhanced. Users can combine multiple email accounts into one inbox and email messages are now threaded, much like text messages had been in the past. The improved 3.5 inch display has made reading text and zooming in on images easy on the eyes, while boasting the best contrast ratio Apple has ever created.

Whether it’s the phone’s video conferencing capabilities or its vast library of fun and useful apps, the iPhone 4 lives up to the hype.
