HTC Evo 4G from Sprint

When Sprint announced it would be introducing the world to the 4G era, smartphone enthusiasts pondered over which device would become the flagship of this new service. The wait is over, as the dazzling HTC Evo 4G was released to the cell phone market.

If a device boasts the power of a 4G network, then it must be built for speed. The new HTC Evo comes equipped with the 1GHz Snapdragon processor and downloading capabilities that can turn the phone into a mobile television using the SprintTV app. Its fast download speeds paired with a HDMI-out port means that video can be streamed from the phone in the highest definition, making it a very powerful media device. Currently, Sprint has 4G network coverage in just over 30 markets, with dozens more planned to be up and running in the near future. Outside of 4G coverage areas, the Evo still maintains fast data speeds in the 3G Now Network.

An innovative feature of the HTC Evo 4G is the front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera, allowing users to video chat with ease using the Qik app. On the rear panel of the phone is an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash, which captures brilliant still shots and clear video recordings. The phone is only a half inch thick and weighs just six ounces, yet is boasts one of the largest high resolution screens available today, at 4.3 inches across. There is also a small pull-out stand on the rear of the device, propping the phone upright when it is used for watching movies or video chatting.

The HTC Evo 4G comes with Android 2.1 software and can be easily upgraded to 2.2 when it is released. With Android comes the perks of Google mobile services, including turn-by-turn navigation and multiple voice command features, and the Android Market, which gives users access to over 35,000 downloadable apps, like Pandora and Google Sky Map. The phone also comes with the fully customizable HTC Sense interface, which is kind of the phone’s epicenter of social networking, widgets, and photo sharing.

With the unlimited capabilities of open-source Android technology and the growing availability of 4G services, the HTC Evo 4G has set the bar for the next generation of smartphones.
